Touch is a new short story set a few weeks before Lost (book 1) in the Cinderella’s Secret Witch Diaries series:

I sat there in the dark and listened to the sound of my own breathing. How did I get here?

I dared not turn my head toward him. I only wanted the moment to last forever. The two of us sat on a stone bench, with the beauty of the garden all around us.

The prince is back from hunting and he came to see me late last night. As much as I try, he still calls me “Cinder.” He thinks it’s a pretty nickname, but I don’t like it. Last night he came to me and kissed me like when we first met. But when he whispered in my ear, “Cinder...” and kissed me some more, I pushed him off of me.

Cinderella put down her glass and turned away so that Henri couldn’t see her blush.

“No, it’s true. You are beautiful.” He edged closer to her, but stopped right before touching her hand.

“My sisters used to call me scrawny and make fun of me because of how tall I was as a kid.” Cinderella glanced back at him and let a bit of her pain show. “They used to call me a scarecrow and would mock me by walking behind me with their arms up in the air and a grimace on their faces.”
