In other news, life has been filled with social events: 30th birthday party for my wife’s cousin last night and a farewell brunch from our neighbors today. I had good time this weekend, but I didn’t have a lot of time to work on my video blog idea. I have put the idea out there and I’m awaiting to find out whether I’ll be working with the site or not. We shall see what happens. So far the most complicated bit has been trying to explain the technology to people: Not everyone knows what the DivX codec is or how it’s necessary to have on your PC to play a video file (otherwise you just hear the sound).
The cool thing is that I was able to get my video blog on my video iPod. I have to say that it was pretty cool to think through all what I did to make this happen. I still have a lot to learn, but it’s been fun (and a good distraction to ease my mind from all the work stress and on moving).
Strangest thing to have happen is that my Web hosting site didn’t recognize the .m4v format. So when I tried to link to that file on my server I kept getting a “file not found” error message. Not cool. It took me most of the day (via e-mail) to convince the Web hosting company to add the .m4v file format to their server. Thankfully they did and the link is now working properly. I’m one step closer to launching the video blog to going live.
What do I think about this whole venture? I must admit that it’s extremely unpolished and has lots of bugs that need to be worked out. I’d like to shorten the length of the video blog and I’d really like to have different segments (an opening skit, fade into the show [about 5-7 mins. Long], and then viewer mail). I’d like for the whole episode to be about 9-10 mins. in length.
Any other news? I did a lot of packing today and I’m getting closer and closer to ripping the last of the major pieces down. There’s a lot that has been packed, but we still have a lot to go (my clothes, the kitchen stuff, and the computers).
In other news, I wanted to mention something cute that my son has started doing. Within the last two weeks, when he’s looking for my wife or I, he calls out: “Miss Mommy, where are YOU?!” But he also says to me: “Miss Daddy, where are YOU?” It’s the cutest thing to hear. He’s been speaking a lot and some of the stuff that he comes out with is amazing. His favorite word of the day is: “Why?” I’ll say to him: “Please, sit down and eat.” And he’ll reply: “Why?” For a split second, I think in my head: “There’s no use explaining to him anything—he’s just going to ignore what I say and ask ‘why’ again.” But I take the time to explain to him. And, yes, he does ask again: “Why?” Why do I keep explaining to him? I think of it this way: He’s only a little over two years old. I figure he hasn’t heard all the explanations in the world. By my talking to him, he’s learning that his questions do matter and maybe he might pick up some of what I say. It’s cute, but when you’re tired it’s not so cute!
Well, I’m off. I’ve a lot yet to do tonight. Peace.
Question: Skype
In other news, I'm still waiting for a decision on my video blog. The site that I'm working with is reviewing the content. I'm hoping to know more in a few days. I know they're concerned about the advertisement portion (my mentioning the name of the video blog and its Website). I'm not sure how we'll get over that issue, but I first have to see what they want/don't want and then I can make my decision from there.
It would be rather cool to be able to put this all together and have some good fun with it. As to whether it'll all work out, who knows. Right now the time factor is increasingly becoming difficult. We've less than 3 weeks until we move. Last night I was packing up some clothes that I know I won't be wearing between now and then. The date is fast approaching!
Well, I have to dash. See ya.
